Material Quality Engineer

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented ‘Material Quality Engineer’ (MQE) to join our Quality Department at our mobile phone factory in Turkey. Reporting to the Quality Manager, the MQE will be a key player in ensuring the quality of all incoming materials used in our mobile phone production. This role encompasses managing the Incoming Quality Control (IQC) process, establishing material quality standards, resolving supplier quality issues, overseeing the Return to Vendor (RTV) process for non-conforming materials, and managing commercial claims. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to work effectively with both internal teams and external suppliers to maintain high material quality standards and minimize production disruptions.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Materials, Electrical, Industrial, or related field) or Quality Management.

Minimum 3 years of experience in a Material Quality Engineering or Incoming Quality Control role,preferably in the electronics or mobile phone manufacturing industry.

Strong understanding of quality control principles, methodologies, and tools.

Experience in managing IQC processes and teams.

Knowledge of material specifications, component quality standards, and industry best practices for electronic components and mobile phone materials.

Proven experience in resolving supplier quality issues and managing supplier relationships.

Familiarity with RTV and commercial claim processes.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills.

Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with suppliers and internal teams.

Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, statistical software).

Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken.

Desirable Skills & Attributes:

Experience with SMT (Surface Mount Technology) components and processes.

Knowledge of relevant quality standards such as ISO 9001, IATF 16949.

Experience with ERP or QMS systems for quality data management.

Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or equivalent certification is a plus.

Proactive, results-oriented, and able to work independently and as part of a team.

Strong sense of responsibility and ownership for material quality.

Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Key Responsibilities:

Incoming Material Quality Control (IQC):

Manage and oversee the daily operations of the Incoming Quality Control (IQC) team to ensure efficient and effective inspection of all incoming materials (SMT components, assembly parts, packaging materials, etc.),

Develop and implement IQC inspection plans and procedures based on material specifications, quality standards, and risk assessments,

Ensure IQC inspectors are properly trained and equipped to perform inspections according to established procedures,

Monitor IQC inspection results, track trends, and identify recurring quality issues with incoming materials.

Material Standard Setup & Maintenance:

Establish and document clear material quality standards and specifications for all incoming materials, working in collaboration with Engineering, Procurement, and Production departments,

Maintain and update material standards documentation to reflect changes in design, supplier processes, or quality requirements,

Ensure that material standards are effectively communicated to suppliers and relevant internal teams.

Supplier Quality Issue Management & Resolution:

Serve as the primary point of contact for suppliers regarding material quality issues and disputes,

Investigate and analyze material quality issues reported by IQC, Production, or other departments, determining root causes and implementing effective corrective actions,

Lead communication and meetings with suppliers to address quality concerns, drive problem-solving, and ensure timely resolution of issues,

Conduct supplier quality audits and assessments as needed to evaluate supplier quality management systems and identify areas for improvement.

Return to Vendor (RTV) Process Management:

Manage the RTV process for non-conforming incoming materials, ensuring timely and efficient return of rejected materials to suppliers,

Follow up on RTV materials with suppliers to ensure proper receipt, analysis, and corrective action implementation by the supplier,

Track RTV material quantities, values, and reasons for rejection to identify trends and areas for supplier improvement.

Non-Conforming (NG) Material Disposition Planning:

Develop and implement disposition plans for non-conforming (NG) materials identified during IQC or production processes, in accordance with company procedures and quality standards,

Work with relevant departments (Engineering, Production, Procurement) to determine appropriate disposition actions (e.g., rework, scrap, deviation, return to vendor),

Ensure proper documentation and tracking of NG material disposition activities.

Commercial Claim Management for RTV Materials:

Prepare and manage commercial claims to suppliers for costs associated with RTV materials, including material costs, inspection costs, production losses, and other related expenses,

Negotiate with suppliers to reach fair and timely settlements for commercial claims.

Track and report on commercial claim recovery rates and effectiveness.

Quality Reporting & Analysis:

Generate regular reports on incoming material quality performance, including IQC inspection results, defect trends, RTV data, and supplier quality performance,

Analyze quality data to identify areas for improvement in incoming material quality, IQC processes, and supplier performance,

Present quality reports and analysis to Quality Management and other relevant stakeholders.
